Gear Indicator Wrong

Hi all, just a quick question for anyone who can help. The gear indicator on the dash is a little off kilter, so none of the positions are matching up with the actual gear the truck is in (for example, 1 is really Drive, Reverse is really Park, etc.). I imagine all this will take is some time underneath the dash fiddling with the cable. How hard a fix is this, and can anyone provide instructions? Thanks in advance.

Question??? Is this on what year F150?? If 98'' Its like my 97'' the gear indicater is out of place , it clips into the bottom of the gauges. You need to remove the trim around the gauges & headlight switch also. Your clip may have broken. Thats what hold it place at the bottom. You need to get a haynes manual to show how & what to remove. Its really not hard to do, just be careful!!!

Thanks for the reply. The white retaining clip at the bottom of the steering column had broken, so all it required was a minor adjustment. Problem solved.
