End cap on Auto shift lever

The little end cap on the autoshift lever keeps poping off it been doing it for the past couple of months I will pop it back on abd after a few days it will pop off when I go to shift. Is there anything I can do besides gluing it to make it stay on. The truck has 95700+ miles on it and I will have had the truck 6 years next month.

Don't recall the part number but it is nine dollars at the dealer. The old one will not relock because the tab breaks when it comes out. Get a new one and save yourself some annoyance.

Thanks, but nine bucks for a small piece of plastic seem a little high to me

My clips didn't break but, the end cap will pop off easy enough if it's man handled.

I just got into the habit of choking up on the gear shift over the years,
maybe two fingers and the thumb on the handle, the rest on the metal bar, so I don't touch the end.

Don't think that spending $9 would help me as it's not actually broke anywhwere and my Windstar will do the exact same thing. They just loosen up over time.

Two words: crazy glue.

I had the same problem and that fixed it for good.

I got so sick of that thing falling off, I didn't care how much it cost to replace it. My dealer charged $7.75. Some folks have gotten it free.

The part number is F2UZ 7A214 CA. The part was redesigned; instead of four prongs holding it on, there is now a partial cylinder that slides into the shifter. Much better, but it doesn't excuse Ford from doing it wrong in the first place.

Here's a picture of the old style versus new.
