Unhappy 2000 Lariat Leather Split Bench Worn Already

I have a 2 month old Lariat with medium graphite leather split bench. On the driver's side near the edge, there is a spot missing color. There's only 2700 miles on it. Is this common? I'm taking it in under warranty, but I have a feeling they will just spray it. It will do it again won't it? Thanks.

Cool

That seems soon to be having noticable wear on your seats. There has been some discussion on this board about the leather not being the real high quality, and showing some signs of cracking, but 2700 mi seems too early for that.
I have a 1999 with the same seat and color, I have 21k on mine and no excessive wear. I do clean and condition my seats regularly, but not every 2 months.

Cool

The tan leather on my 98 started looking bad within a few months, with the color sort of "chipping" off. Is this normal wear? No Way. Is it common...just read back through some of the old posts here...its way to common. Kudos to the dealership I go to [Lake Norman Ford, NC]...they replaced the steering wheel and seats under warranty without a question. The new seats are not the same type leather as the originals [feels thicker], but I've ordered some seat covers as a precaution and put a nice Wheelskin on the steering wheel. I hope these hold up better...so far so good...but I think Ford knows they have a problem here.

I have a 2000 with over 34,000 miles. The leather looks good yet. I do clean and condition about every other month. MOre often in the summer....hot sun etc...

I will say that the steering wheel is a pain to keep clean though. I'm a clean buy, but my wheel looks like a mechaning who never washes drives it daily. I could clean it once a week and it would still be dirty.

Lariat4wd,

I have posted about my seats and steering wheel. Both wore way WAY to early...
I had both changed under warrenty. I think mine had 10,000 miles on it. The steering wheel had black showing through .. I recieved a replacement for that .. The seats had really lousy wear on the front sections .. under the knees. The replacment covers were different then the stock one .. and would have mismatched. My dealership paid a leather seat shop .. of my choice .. to make new bottoms for my seats. They match perfectly and are made out of "real" leather... unlike my originals.

BTW .. really like your site.. and the woofer boxes are interesting. Would like that for my 98.

Unhappy

Damn guys. I wish I had read this earlier. I have 60,000 on my 99 but the wheel's been black where I hold it for about 40000 miles. I doubt I'll have much luck getting the dealer to pay for it now. So what's my answer now short of a new steering wheel? A wheelskin? I looked at my local parts store and didn't come up with anything acceptable. Suggestions?

I would suggest you use the search on this site .. for wheelskin, or steering wheel. There was also a site that re-covered leather steering wheels. I know there are posts with links on them, however I didn't bookmark them. Good luck.

OK guys. I'm looking at one of those snap-on wheel rings. How do they look. I plan on "snapping" it over a leather wrapped steering wheel on a 99 F-150. Any words?
