Question Ash Tray

For those of you who smoke, what is the deal with the ash tray? I was driving the other day with a soda in the cup holder in the dash and was wondering how you empty it. It says "SOFT CUPS ONLY" on it. Does this mean that you have to buy disposable ash trays or what. Since I don't smoke or allow smoking in the truck it would be nice if I could use it for an extra cup holder, I think all I have it in now is the vehicle description tag that was attached to the keys when I picked it up.

Cool

The ashtray is underneath what you are refering to, at least in my truck. It is pulled out from the bottom. Since there isn't a coin slot in the console for pennies, the ashtray is where they go. There is a button tab inside the ashtray that is pushed down for removal. Also, the ashtray has a small light so at night the pennies won't get scared.

This was one of the first things I noticed that was much different when I picked up my 2000. I don't smoke..but I did use the ash tray in my 98 as a coin holder...and it was the underneath, pull out style. Not anymore in the 2000..it is a 'cup'.

I pulled the entire ash tray out and use the slot as an oversized and lighted cup holder. It works great.

And I thought my truck didn't come with a ash tray I don't smoke so its no big deal to me and don't allow it in my truck but it comes in handy for trash or coins like penneys so I'll have look at the in dash cup holder to see what you are refering to.

Geez....I had no idea that it was an ashtray. We were trying to figure it out the other day when looking for someplace to coffees from Tim Hortons.
I am a smoker but only part time and never in my vehicles or house.

I think the 2000 models came with ash trays as an option, (1999 cars had a Smokers Package $15). It gave you a small removable ash tray that fit into the left side of the in-dash cup holder. If your truck did not have the Smokers Package, it did not come with this ash tray.
Pre-2000 models have a different in-dash cup holder. The in-dash pull out cup holder also has a pull out ash tray attached to the bottom of it.
Hope this answers some questions.

I ordered my truck and I did not specify that I wanted a smokers package nor was it listed on the Order sheet or the window sticker. Are you sure that it is an option. I wish I had known, I could have saved 15 bucks

I sure don't remember reading anything about a smokers package. Mine came with the cupholder ashtray and there was no $15.00 charge for it on my truck

I was not offered this option and did not pay the extra $15.00 either. I tried to locate info on the smoker's package..but no luck yet. Interesting...I want a refund!!

Any one know how to get the ash tray out on a 2000 F-150 XLT? I can't get it to come out gently and I don't want to force it and break the cup holder.

Spargo2,
It takes a little effort the first time you pull it out. I just lifted the lid and gave it a tug.

Well after reading the posts in this topic. I just had to see if the soft cup holder with flip up lid in the indash cup holder would pull out and I had no problem pulling it out. So now I know I have a ash tray that I didn't know I had before it just shows how great this site is finding out things about our trucks that we may have not known before.
