Supercrew rear seat head rest
My xlt supercrew did not come with head rests on the rear bucket seats. My wife is very concerned that a rear end accident would cause the kids heads to smash in to the rear window. Does anyone know of an aftermarket solution or other idea?
On my SUPERCAB, I installed a head restraint. I am not sure if the CREW is set up the same way, but read on:
The only modification that I have done is install an open-webbed head restraint. It took me about half a day and about $30. I used 1/2" inner diameter Electric Metal Tubing with 2, 90 degree bends and foam pipe insulation for the head restaints. For the brackets, I used a 6", 16 gauge metal stud(5"length x 3" wide)for the mounting brackets (2). These brackets were easily mounted into the existing threaded female openings at the rear cabin wall behind the seat back. Two additional slotted holes were drilled into the bracket and rear cabin wall.
Six 1/2" x 3/8" diameter bolts, nuts and lock washers were needed: 2 for mounting each bracket to the rear cabin wall and 2 for mounting each end of the EMT into the metal bracket.
