Not sure if it will be helpful on a 97, but these instructions were perfect for my 01. You'll need Acrobat reader:

On mine is was basically undoing the two screws that hold the window in place, popping off the top trim, and then three screws for the bottom trim. 10 mins tops. Good luck

I have the same truck as you. I assume you are having trouble with the left rear one in particular? You have to get the bottom plastic piece out from under the top piece, which requires that you unscrew the window latch assembly. Also to get the bottom piece out from under the top piece theres two screws underneath the window by the armrest that need unscrewing, and u have to take the seatbelt out of the little slot that its in.

.... its pretty much a bitch, but not too hard once you get started... just keep pulling and tugging, that plastic wont break.

Famous last words... hahahahaha...

If I were to 'tug and yank' on it, it'd snap into 600,000 pieces and have no prayer of being put back together. I'd have to buy a new one from the dealership because no one would have one at a junkyard and I'd be in a bad mood for weeks...

LOL...
