DRL & light bar

Where is a good place to tap into for the trigger to my led light bar. MY 97 F150 has DRL so the high beam wire is also the drl light just a lower voltage. so needless to say since im tapped into the high beam wire at the headlight when i start my truck the light bar comes on. so f i forget to shut the switch off in the cab i could be getting into some trouble if im running around town and the light bar is in. Had the same issue with my 95 as well
i just searched through 27 pages of old threads looking for a solution with no luck..

Best way is run them on Relay and use a switch to trigger it.
I would say high beam but you have DRLs so when they get power so would the relay.

What do you WANT them to do? Come on with the engine? There is a ignition wire on your ECU. Come on with lights? Trigger via relay to your headlamp switch.

No I just want to find a trigger wire so they will come on with high beams only. Not come on with drl and high beams this is the way they are now as I have the trigger coming off of the high beam wire behind the headlight. Eather that or I need to find a relay that will only trigger on 12+ volts and nothing lower.

when I wired up my KC daylighters to come on with high beams I wired them into the harness off the multifunction switch....so they only came on when I swithed it to high beam

Hi.

Do you also have high-beam DRL's?

I actually have a D-box behind the battery close to the firewall on my 01 screw with all the off road bullbar and rollbar lights. my interior, exterior, underbody, in bed blue led's. my fogs, & halogen reverse spots wired to the d-box to a custom panel in my factory center console with separate blue Led rocker switches and one master switch. All on at once, or one at the time... . Works well for me, no unsightly wires, switches can be hidden (in case of questionable on road running them) lol... Took a while to set it all up, but works well...

No I do not ....I had the KCs wired the same on my 2000 and on my current 98....even so if you wire them into that wire they should only turn on when switch to high beam and turn off when switching to low beam....

Drl's are your high beam just not 12v. His problem is they are wired to his high beams and when his drls turn on the light bar turns on.
He wants to find a way to have them turn on with high beams but not with his drls.

Not sure if your 97 is the same DLR set up as a 2001, but, on my 2001 the dlr's are easily disabled (illegal in Canada BTW) without causing any canbus errors, by unplugging the Resistor mounted on the lower front left side of the rad support, between the rad support and front bumper. Just a quick fix solution,,, would solve your problem though.

Ya don't want to disable them.. Especially when im going for my class 3 licence. cannot have any offences.. I have probed everywhere under the dash and i cannot find one that does not have voltage as soon as the truck is started and the DRL kick in. The easiest solution is to find a relay that will only trigger on 12v or more. Maby a heavy duty relay will work.

Might have to just trigger it with a switch
