Adding halos
Adding halos
Well I'm looking to see if anyone here can guide me in the right direction... My girlfriend has a 2010 f150 crew can.... She has wanted pink halos for her headlights so I was gona do it For her college grad present..... So question where can I go for it where can I puny it do I need to get a whole new set of headlights that are projectors for it? I have no clue hope somone here can help get me goin in the right direction also I'm located in the Houston tx area if that helps for any known shops.
You can take the headlight apart, and glue the halos (Oracle, Morimoto, etc.) onto the light. But actually, because of how the 09+ lights are a weird shape, you can't really do that.
Look up retrofit and look at those, with halos. On my truck, it's as easy as taking the headlight apart, slapping the ring on, and putting the headlight back together. $60 and time. You're gonna have to do a retrofit or get eBay headlights, which I don't care for.

Great info! I contacted oracle since they are local to me but the led lighting they do is like a halo of the shape of the whole light housing but they don't offer pink.... So I figured I would look into trying to find another headlight that's for this truck which would have to be projector headlights then add in the rings.... This is the only photo I found of something and she likes the way this looks..... But not sure a of everything I need to do to get this done with that light and what not....

You can Ebay projector headlights but they will be junk.
How much money you wanna drop on headlights?
You can go the route you pictured, buy the OEM headlights, crack then open and add the halos (my choice morimoto from theretrofitsource) and then get the wiring kit to run them. -most expensive way
Do a full on retrofit by adding your own HID projector and halos -medium expensive
Or get the Oracle kit that outlines the headlight bucket and hope she doesn't mind them not being pink- least expensive.
Well it's her college grad present and welllll she wants them pretty bad lol and ya know soon to be wife so happy wife = happy life I don't kind dropping a lil bit of cash on it but just not sure the right direction to go would hate to pull the lights and get into them and tear them up or damage them while trying to retro fit them then have to wait tod find another set of oem lights..... What kinda prices am I looking at? I think she was quoted about 1500 for some company to rip the oem lights open and add the outline halos like oracle but I think they were going to put in color shift so that she would be able to set it to pink but idk what's reasonable price for all of this.... Heck if there is a color shift kit I can do then I don't mind that either long as she can set it to pink
$1500 that's outrageous.
You can buy this OEM HID headlights for about $1100 add xbaled morimoto rings~$75, and the new harness~$100 and end up with the color you want and better light output all at the same time.
If you can find the color shift kit yourself then buy a set of OEM halogen headlights from the junk yard and attempt to open them to get everything in there

$1500 sounds about right between labor involved and parts. That's only $200 in labor.
BUT, you can spend less than half that and get better lights via retrofit. The problem is that all she wants is the rings, which are cheap. But to get them, you have to add all this expensive stuff that she doesn't even want/need. I think it will be money well spent on a retrofit and she'll enjoy the added light much more than the rings when all's said and done.
lariat knows 10 times more than me about this stuff, but if you were to do the retrofit yourself, with a single Mini H1, you could come in less than $500 with the rings. And have her be stoked about great light output from the headlights.
Would it be theoretically possible to add a large ring to a completely stock housing centered around the bulb? It would need to be supported and maybe look a little funky up close, but it could/should be possible.
That's so crazy that I'm gonna graduate college in 3 years and marriage is on the plate for y'all . . . eek
I hope I'm in a similar position, but interesting for me to think about. I'm from Sugar Land by the way.

Okay great! All of this is great info.... I think I will go the route of buying the retro kit and attempting this project myself.... Any tips on how to open up the headlights? Or what retro kit exactly to buy or where to buy the halo rings and all of that information.... And sugar land... Your only about 30 minutes from me I'm in the NE side in Humble I may have to hit you up for some tips on this lol
Hey curious I wonder if I could find a set of 13 lights in a junk yard.... Then all I would need would be a harness and the halos to add in correct? If not. Oh well I'll go the retrofit route lol I won't have to much time to knock out this project for her surprise lol
thelariat02 has alot of knowledge about this and helped me alot in the past.
Theretrofitsource.com has everything you need for a retro. There are also a few guys on here that can do a complete retro for a good price.
Use the search on here n search google for retrofit info.
Read, watch some youtube videos, and then read some more before you decide to do it yourself. It is not a couple hour project. It takes time to do it right.

Now opening either headlight is gonna be a pain. Ford uses Permaseal to seal the lens to the headlight housing. You have to heat to 235°f for 15 minutes and try to get the lens off. This could take multiple tries.
Now you could buy OEM style lights from Ebay and those do not have Permaseal, but they are known to start yellowing and pitting over a few years.
I would call TRS (theretrofitsource) first and see if every can even order you pink first..
Thanks Speedstang
Hmm well I know for the 2013 lights oracle makes the halos for it... So if I was able to find a good set of them then maybe I could scoop them from a junk yard then take those to oracle... But isn't there so e type of harness needed to make that light work in a 2010
Hi Tex;
A good read - take the time to go through it completely:
https://www.f150online.com/forums/il...ing-begin.html
And an example of one type of Halo, plus details on what stuff actually costs:

Still wanna do this? Take her out to dinner instead and fly her to Cabo - it's cheaper
Good luck!

Finding a junk yard set would be ideal, but would be a waiting game for sure. The best way to do this without her knowing would be to get a second set of headlights and do the retrofit on those, or pay one of the guys on here to do it. Usually this is a multi-day process.
You do indeed need the adaptor wiring harness, which a few places sell.
I drive through Humble all the time traveling back and forth between Sugar Land and Houston. I go to Hockley every once in a while too. I would more than gladly offer assistance, but this is a case of me knowing what to do, but never having done it myself.
Bilinvic's retrofits are WAY overpriced in my opinion. And the LS460 projectors are up there with the best available, all he needs is a simple Mini H1 set up.

Tex;
The queue for the fellers doing this are measured in months, not days.
Bilinvic does fantastic work and for the quality of components and workmanship, the prices he charges are indeed reasonable.
You could PM Saleen1013 (a member here who does this - also posted in that first thread) for info, but his queue is getting up there too. Timing is everything - more advanced planning would have helped, lol.
The concept of using spare heads to work on / practice is covered in that thread as well.
The response you received above is why you should not put much faith in someone who knows next to nothing about this topic. There are those who do, and that is where you need to focus. Getting help from such a person will just make it worse. Just sayin'.
