fading instrument cluster lights

when i turn my lights on at night, only half of lights on the cluster works. its a 98, so the oil, temp, gas, voltage gauges and about half of the speedometer dont light up. but the rpm gauge does. and before i start the truck, all the light in cluster come on, such as abs, cel, etc. on both sides and they all work. its only the gauge lights for some reason. the 4 small gauges to the far left are completely out at night, they work but no lights, and only half of the speedo works and the rpm light works.

it just doesnt make any sense, the speedo light looks like its fading from dark to being fully bright on the rpm side. and on a side note the light, and switch little panel thing, the lights dont come on that until i tap it.

any ideas?

grounds or it might be a broken solder joint on the dash cluster board by the connector...

haha sorry about that. It's the switch that turns the lights/dogs on and the dimmer switch. Those lights won't come until I tap it.

issue could be in the switch itself....might want to check the connectors in back also....
