eBay Headlight/HID kit combination worth it?

Good morning everybody. Have a question about the headlight/HID kit combos on eBay. I need new headlights( like the ones in the listing ) and would also like some HID's. I know HID kits can get expensive so wondering if these are any good or just a waste?

Thanks,
Rob

Don't even bother. HIDs in the stock bowls are only marginally better than stock bulbs, so save your money and buy a retrofitted set of lights on down the road.

Comes without bulbs. Haha. Also need to buy a resistor? Run Lonestar, Run.

Don't touch them just save your money and either get some high quality halogen bulbs or do a retrofit.

Figured this was the response I would get . So what's a good price for a decent set of retrofit headlights? Already made ones( I don't the time to do my own ).

You can still get headlights like that, but without the HIDs. I have a pair of $80 eBay's and I like 'em! They don't fit perfect, but for the price I'm chuffed

You can usually get then for around 400 to 500 already made depending on the company and projectors..
Check the for sale section here I thought i saw a few for that body style on here not to long ago..
If not there are a few guys on this site that might be willing to do a retro for you.

Yea, I know. Thats what I have now but they've peeled and cracked. Time for some new ones, but for only about $20-$30 more you can get HID's with em. That's why I was wondering if it was worth it.

Yea that's out of my price range right now. I'll keep an eye on the classified section though.

How long did your current pair last? Mine were installed recently, but if I can get 2 years or so out of them, I'm good with that. It's always parked in a garage now too

You get what you pay for. As KMAC and you both said the fitment will be off and they will peel/crack. And please don't run HIDs in non HID housings, you will just blind everyone and look like an a**. If you want the darker housing look, buy Harleys or open yours up and paint them. If you want HIDs buy retrofitted ones. If you don't have the money or the time then why not leave your ebay ones in and slowly work on your factory housings that you took out?

My factory ones are clouded and crazed beyond being worth messing with IMO, but I'm not sure what shape yours are in. I don't like how any non-factory ones fit, including the Hella's and ones that are pretty expensive that are supposed to be high-quality factory equivalents. I'd love some brand new Ford factory ones to have painted by a shop white to match or black, but I'm not putting $500 into that when some that are good enough are 75 bucks.

I think even the pre-made/assembled HID retrofit sets use cheapie ones because they only charge $100 for new housings. And I do believe that you get what you pay for.

They lasted quite a while. Don't know exactly but probably more than 2 years. Then they started peeling and I had them redone by forum member Lifted5.4Lariat but those didn't even last a year.

Oh, did you have him paint them or something to "redo" them? What actually was peeling? Good to hear that they lasted a while though

I haven't seen Lifted5.4Lariat post for a long time, wonder what he's been up to

He sanded them, lightly smoked them, and cleared them. Just couldn't stand up to the Texas weather I guess.
