Mine's a little different. I can turn them on when I want, have them come on in reverse, OR not come on at all.

My PIAA lights came with a three positioned switch just like that ... I loved the fact that I could turn them on whenever I would like (possibly when people have their brights on behind me SURPRISE!)

When my switch is in the off position, then lights are off... If I go to reverse then the lights come on, or I can turn them on any time I want to with the switch... I also have found its a good way to warn drivers behind me!

Love the light output... Flush mount would look cleaner though...
