Quick Question [HID Ballast]

Ok i havent been here in a hot minute but i figured this is the best place to ask this dumb question i have..

I had bought HID's over ebay a long time ago, the ballast on one of the lights has died [if thats the correct term] and i need to go get my truck inspected.

The question is, i looked at my ballast, wrote all the relevant info that was printed on it, found one on Amazon with matching parameters and ordered it. The only difference that concerns me is that while the new one i ordered says HID system on the top of the ballast, at the bottom it says something about xenon. is this going to **** **** up? thanks, im sure i look like an idiot asking

xenon is just one of those Chinese brands, so the ballast being different in itself won't mess stuff up, the lights being cheap eBay lights possibly could.

Usually you'll want to replace HID components in pairs+sets....like both bulbs and ballasts....its better for breaking in and startups....imo

Xenon is the gas that is in the HID capsule.

Hella and every will call the lamps HID or Xenon lamps.

Do the oncoming drivers a favor and take out the glare machines ( the PnP HID kit you installed ) and put back in the factory lamps
- return what you have, and buy a set of Silverstar or Silverstar ultra bulbs for your truck, you will be shocked how much farther down the road is illuminated, not just a splatter in front of you and you will save some money.

Yes I know, it's also a brand too. Back in my highschool days I thought I'd be cool and get a set of hids, which were Xenon brand, lasted all of about two days then I took them out. I guess in this case it could be referring to two things without seeing what the ballast he was talking about looks like.

I agree with the silverstar ultras, that's what I run now and the output is amazing compared to the hids I had, the cheap eBay projectors, and the cheaper sylvainia ones I had previously too.

My mistake. I don't own any of them, but I should have assumed a China mfgr would take that name.

I have SS Ultras in now, replacing the SS bulbs ( they were a bit long in the tooth, only 2nd set since the SS came out for the H13 bulbs ).
I don't have lifespan issues with them, like others talk about.
Still have the Osram H4 bulbs that I got in Europe, in the 94 GL1500 & the '02 ZG1000, and those are on anytime the bike is running.

There are many more functional method of getting more usable light output than the splatter machines.

Ok so i bought the replacement, got it installed and they said my light flickers briefly and then turns off..

Does anyone know how much it would cost to take it to ford and just have them install factory bulbs?

Did you cut your factory wiring to install the ballasts? if not can't you just unplug the ballast from the oem harness and then get a halogen bulb to put in it? or am i missing something?

Just buy a set of bulbs and put them back in 0.o ..... the stock wiring harness should still be there and one of them will be going to a relay.

I just got time today to attack this... And as it turns out, they did infact cut the factory housing for the bulb on the passenger side but not the driver side[the one thats out], im assuming because of space issues.

Can any shop rewire this or do i have to take it to Ford? also, whats the proper way to remove a ballast? i cant find any useful videos haha

You can just unplug the ballast. not much to worry about there. If they cut the factory plug then you could fix it yourself if you are good at wiring or bring it to a shop that knows wiring pretty well. Bringing it to Ford would cost you a pretty penny..
