Fog light reflective chrome?

He guys. I had some flooding in my area and got my truck pretty deep in water. My truck is a 04 lariat and I replaced my fogs bulbs twice. There was glass every where in the housing so I decided to take them apart to get the glass out and buff out the inner and outer fog light cover while I was at it.

Next I wiped the chrome plasic reflective part lightly with a towel and the chrome is just peeling off. I noticed my other light that I haven't touched yet is in really bad shape. What would you guys suggest? Re paint with something, replace, any ideas? Thanks.

If the light works I wouldn't worry about the chrome...just clean it off real nice and put some HIDs in there!! No, seriously, no chrome = ok with me.

Well it kinda looks like crap right now with the way it is. I thought the chrome helped with the light. If it doesn't do that much I could paint it with some black heat paint.

The reflective coating is a plastic resin-based coating which is sprayed on really lightly. Just about any amount of wiping will remove it as you can see. If you use your fog lights fairly often, I would replace them. Otherwise, you'll take a huge hit in reflective output from the bulbs alone.

Thanks. It looks like I will be replacing them. I just tried wet sanding and buffing like I do all my head lights and the lenses look horrible. I can't get them to buff out. Crap

Yeah that plastic can only take so much. I know my 2 year old heads are already peeling. You might want to look into getting some 3M clear vinyl tape to go over them.

I see you're talking about the reflective chrome to aim your lights...yeah needs to be replaced. I thought you were referring to a lens or covering over the bulb, not the reflective stuff behind it. Look on eBay I found some good ones recently:

Im going to search eBay. The round ones won't work I have the rectangle ones. Anybody know of a replacement or after market that will fit in there? Stock ones $80-$90 a piece.

If you visit any auto parts store, they will most likely sell (probably have to order) chrome paint (in a spray can). It will work well, and cost about $10....been around for a few decades..........

Not nearly the same stuff. And if it did work, it would be almost instantaneous before it started peeling or burning
