The question is: stock or aftermarket? My aftermarket lenses used some kind of butyl rubber that was very well still sticky. I just popped them off, did my retro, and then heated them back up and sealed it back together. If it is a OEM PermaSeal unit, I would heat it up and use a flathead screwdriver or hobby knife to get it all off and then buy some new butyl rubber (http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...roducts_id=792) to seal it all back up.

Mine are aftermarket that i am using. I did by some of that butyl rubber from them to use to reseal them. Could i just put on on over the old stuff or should i heat it up and take off the other stuff first? I ask that question cause i already started to pick at some of the stuff that was on the light to begin with after i took them apart.

When I did mine, and a few other re-seals I used a 1/4" wood chisel in the channel. You just have to be careful and take your time, a wood chisel can leave a nasty cut if it slips.

You could've just put the halves back together and heat it back up to reactivate the bonding agent.
