These are true projectors. The kits made by recon and Spyder I believe DO NOT use projector bulbs, they use OEM style, meaning no ballasts, etc

I could be wrong.

until you've experienced the difference first hand....then you'll know....

pretty much boils down to "you get what you pay for"

the output of a HID projector is far superior to an h1 halogen like the spyder has....

What about some of these?

I like to keep my fx2 look with these being smoked. Since I want to do the hids as well, just want something good quality and not cheap but reasonable priced too. What do you guys think about these?

It's kind of apples to oranges when you look at a housing like this versus a full retrofit. I mean, to each their own but, it's not really a fair comparison to compare HID projectors that are as good, if not better, than what would be on a vehicle stock from the factory to an aftermarket 'projector' housing with aftermarket HID bulbs/ballasts.

Not trying to burst your bubble -- if you like them, go for it -- but, it's just not a fair comparison to the OPs set up.

Another thing to think about FXN, you're looking at a tinted/smoked housing...so that is going to hurt the light output from those a bit as well. I've added PIAA Night-tech halogen bulbs for the highs and lows in my smoked housings and they are better than standard sylvania bulbs were; but I'm still looking at adding some auxiliary driving lights to make up for the tint. If I could do it all over again, even though I really like the look of my truck, I wouldn't get the tinted headlights.

There is no such thing as "quality" with those. Tiny halogen projectors with tiny H1-style bulbs as illumination source result in pi** poor output. If you put HIDs in a halogen prejector or reflector, you are going to have massive amounts of foreground illumination and scattered light
