HID kit install question
HID kit install question
Well I was replying to another members thread I figured I would start my own here. well I installed a HID kit 9008 single 10000k. They look awesome btw. The only problem is during install of course it wasnt a bolt up and turn on kit so I had to splice into existing wires. First I tried one of the two colored wires and black. Nothing then the other and black still no power. Last I combined both colors (HI/LOW) wires and black it fired right up. Only down side after this is my dash HI beam stays lit when lights are turned on and of course fogs dont work unless I turn **** back to middle setting. Does this make any sense? Im not trying to sound all confusing.
Have You checked Your fuses? Have You tested the wires and connections? Did you use a harness? Is it a bi-xenon kit? Did you do a Bambi mod?
Hacking up your stock wiring is not a good idea, especially if you plan on trading it off or selling later so I would keep the "splicing" to a minimum..

well no fuses have gone bad. I actually didnt splice I cut back a foot behind harness and used butt connectors. this way if i decide to later go back to stock the wiring is easy to reconnect. For some reason every time I click on the Bambi mod link it never works. Does any one have a better version?
Oh and no its not bi xenon just a sinlge phase.

that's still not really the way you should have went about things in a perfect world.. best thing would have been just sit on it till you got figured out.
but anyways, what all did your kit come with? maybe a link would be nice so we can better understand what you are working with.

It sounds like your not getting the volts from your low beam wire to fire up the ballast. That's why it probably works with the high and low together, I know it doesn't make sense but it's not working the proper way either. I don't know if anything will happen running it this way but I wouldn't. Get a relay harness that will give you power from the battery and use the low beam wire as a trigger. Your dash lite is on because you have power running to it from the low beams.

here is the link to what I installed hope this helps.
Im not sure what a relay harness is. I used what was provided in the kit. The ballasts, wiring and junction boxes. There were two wires to connect a red and black. thats it. The dam kit didnt come with an instruction so what now. Chunk it and invest in a better one?

junction box? try to post a picture of all the parts so we know what you have, the link doesn't explain anything. from what you said, it sounds like you only received 2 ballast, 2 bulbs, and im assuming plugs for the ballasts that has two wires coming out of it (the red and black you mentioned)
a relay harness draws power from the battery, while using (in your case) the low beam wire to trigger the relay to send power to the ballast. you can pick up a off-road light kit from an auto parts store which will give you instructions, wire, and the relay.. not the best wire since it's usually pretty thin but it will get the job done since they are made to power 55w bulbs, and you only use 35w for the ballast but thicker wire would be a good idea.
*SOMEONE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, I'M JUST GOING OFF WHAT SEEMS LOGICAL

^^ seems right.
OP, as far as light output, how do you like it? If you like it, then get a harness and wire it up properly. If not, we can redirect you to a site with quality components for quality light (see siggy).

Ill take some pics here and post them. What I meant by junction box is Im assuming thats the relay box. I love the lights. They are freaking bright but I dont want them to be too bright if its illegal. Thats y Id like to figure out how to go from Hi to low if possible. Im sure they wont since they are single only.

That's a ballast.....
This is what my projector retrofit came with......notice the harness.....

ok thanks. so is a relay supposed to be in here? will that eliminate the HI beam light on and will this prevent me from using both HI/LOW beam wires?
I thought when I bought this kit that what it was a kit. Complete. Excuse me for not knowing but if a relay is all I need to fix this where and what kind should I get? Thanks for all the help guys!
