'01 HID Retrofit

Hey there guys. First off I would like to give a special shout out to Raptor05121, Thomas_W, and the rest of the community!!!

I did my retrofit last February, but was unable to post my progress. I completed it in an afternoon, yet my dad was hospitalized the following day. He is still recovering today. For the last two years I have been running his company of 100+ while finishing up college and now this past September I got married to my high school sweetheart.

Enough with the background... Like others I have seen a lot of 2004+ HID retrofits and upgrades, but I've wanted to see much older ones. I dove in with both feet and I think it came out great. The view when I drive at night is AWESOME! Not that it has anything to do with the tech. side of it...... but my wife (girlfriend at the time) was right there with me on the project. She gets excited to play with the power tools.

The largest assistance I received came from the following threads:

02-screw-hid-project-upgrade

faqs-halogens-v-hids

official-f-150-headlight-bulb-guide

I bought the projector and lights from: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/

Purchased on ebay for $40 with shipping.

Added some LEDs behind the projector while I was fabricating the housing. Why not?! Is it squid-ish??

I'm sorry for not having more field test shots posted. I am recovering my laptops HDD from crashing with the rest of my photos. The corner housings and fogs have not been changed yet. Still on the list of things to do. I have the corners with switchbacks just waiting to get plugged up. I plan on adding matching Halogen fogs and lights behind the grill when I take the grill off to place the corners in. (Mod day anyone??)

I realize this is not a full build thread and lacks a ton of details. Bear with me as I add more.

I plan on adding more photos as I can recover them, but since I have been lurking on the site and helped by so many members I wanted to give some back. I will keep updating and answer as many questions as I can.

awesome!

fyi, you don't have to remove the grille to install the corner lights, one screw should be holding them in on top, then you just pull out on them and disconnect the bulb.

Congrats on the marriage!

What a clean build. You got the same lights I did off eBay, the cheap halogen 9007s with the blue gasket is a dead giveaway. What projectors are those, MH1s? And I'm guessing 5000K bulbs? I'll have to add you to the list once I get my computers HDD completed. The LEDs look great, especially since they match the paint.

Looks more like the miniD2S or E55 to me. MH1 cutoff steps looks like the FXR.

Results look fantastic, looks OEM!

@coobies5 Thanks for the info man!! I had no idea about not taking the grill off. I was making that way to hard.

@Raptor05121 I will need to go back and find the projector receipt, but you are correct that the bulbs are 5000k. I wasn't sure how the LEDs were gunna turn out but I love them.

@yall I'm really glad you like it!! I have a few surprises in the works for my 300,000 mile anniversary Its coming quick

That looks fantastic!!! I sooooo want to do this! Just dont know if I could pull it off. The way my luck goes I would probably find a way to screw it up and have nothing but problems.

I thought the same thing. In the end I wish I would have done it when I got the truck lol I don't understand how I used to drive at night with the stock lights!! If you have a basic understanding of how headlights work then you can do the retrofit. The biggest part is the prep work. Get every piece you need before you start the job. Plan out your process. Finally, allow 6 or so hours to get it done (includes time for a SNAFU)

always keep in mind. The community here is filled with the **aged wise-ones** who are very willing to help!

Will this work for my 2000? So, what headlight did you get from E bay? What is the projector that you have? Will the Bi-xenon: Morimoto Mini D2S 2.0 work?

Contact the retro source....the op used fxr projectors....the mini would work but the fxr puts out a better beam.... https://www.f150online.com/forums/ot...t-upgrade.html

Yeah, if you've got the space, always go for the bigger projector. Minis are meant for cars with tiny headlights. The FX-R will fit our trucks like a glove.

Well, after reading all the retrofit stuff that I can find this is a must do! I only wish that I had found all this good info a week ago! Ya, I have junk on the way. I have bling bling projector headlights and a 35 watt 4300K kit. So, maybe try it out and save up and I will do this. #1 get a clear lighting headlight. #2 get this??? http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...roducts_id=178
