Running 12 volt dc to rear of truck on a 2011

What's the best way to power some rear mounted driving lights? I am planning on putting a couple of HID driving lights on the rear that I can turn on anytime needed. Is there a good route to run power to the back or is there anything already run with the 7 pin towing plug?

Run the power wires somewhere out of site? I just ran mine when I had lights in the rear with the wires going down the inside of the passenger frame rail. But since your going such a long distance make sure to run a heavier gauge wire.

I'm not too sure of the 2011s, but I'd guess nothing would carry the amperage required for HIDs. You should do a fresh relay harness with a fuse.

35W HIDs will draw about 6 amps, so being safe use a 10A fuse. For under 15 feet, 12AWG is fine, anything over 20 feet will require 10AWG.

Thanks for the replies! I think I will just try to snake a 10 ga wire back there along with a switch wire, maybe I will find some extra needs for power back there.

If you wanna have the room to expand with extra power, I'd run something like maybe an 4 or 8 gauge wire all the way to the back so you could just put in a distribution block to tap off of. Just an idea that would give you more power to expand with later!

I was thinking about it you could basically just pick up a dual car amplifier wiring kit and use that, it would have just about everything you could possibly need to get it hooked up in there! I thinking there's one for sale over in the classifieds too right now..
