Question for Retrofit Members....

Well I have really been looking at doing a retrofit! I want to do one REALLY REALLY bad! But there is 1 thing holding me back...
I do a lot of dirt road driving.. How well do they preform on bumpy dirt roads? I'm looking at the Mini DS2 kit. I'm concerned that they will vibrate so much, it will end up damaging the housing. Raptor told me that his were silicone'd in, and didn't vibrate at all. But i want to hear others remarks on it too..

Thanks!
Tanner

I have their centric shroud rings on mine. A little circular black piece of plastic that goes around the projector. I drive over interstate bridges (we know how bumpy those are at high speed), all day and they haven't moved a bit. The rings will only work on certain shrouds. Not the Gatling though.

Don't use silicone to hold the projectors in. It is a sealant, not a glue (and frankly you shouldn't be using it as a headlight sealant either, use butyl tape). Use high temp Epoxy to hold the projectors secure along with the bolts (projectors get hot). I do a ton of hunting and fishing year-round, so I'm offroad all the time on bumpy roads with a stiff suspension and big tires. I used epoxy liberally between the reflector and projector and they haven't budged at all (All 4 projectors).

Also, the miniD2S requires you to cut the reflector...you might as well do the FXR. If you don't want to cut it up, use the MiniH1.

Let me clarify what I said. I had FOUR bolts (one on each corner) holding mine in. I sealed it with silicone. One day I took my retro apart and took the bolts out and the silicone itself held everything in place perfectly. Not a millimeter of movement. It took me 20 minutes of cutting the silicone sealant to manage to get the projector out. But like mSall said, if you don't want to half-**** it, get butyl tape. But I was in a rush, so do as I say, not as I do

Bolts removed, just silicone holding it in:

As for the vibration: don't even sweat. I admit, it was a concern for mine. Its why I went with FOUR nuts, bolts, and locking washers along with half a tube of high-temp silicone. I've been up and down dirt roads running a code 3 response and my lights don't move an inch!

Also, like mSall said again (what a smart guy, eh?), if you are going to do a cut retrofit, go for the FX-R. If you don't want to cut, go for the Mini H1.

Sorry for taking that out of context, I kinda figured that every member here(illumination & Lighting thread) would know exactly how you did yours. lol. Kinda made the assumption that everyone knew that you had bolts and the glue. lol. But I know what making assumptions does... Sorry bro.

If I have to cut with the Mini DS2, I might just go with the FXR's then. Might have to wait a little while, and let the funds build up... But it will probably be worth it...

Its all good bro. Definately save up for the FX-Rs. None of the pics you see do them any justice. They are 100x brighter in person
