Aftermarket Daytime Running Light Circuit?
Aftermarket Daytime Running Light Circuit?
Am installing aftermarket DRLs since US F150s aren't so equipped and the 2011 models can't be reprogrammed to Canadian standards, according to my dealer (never liked the idea of using dimmed-down headlights as DRLs anyway!). Would like to wire them in at the underhood fuse box at the top of the radiator -- nice and convenient.
If someone with the knowledge would be kind enough, I need a good circuit to tap in the DRL power relay trigger. Ideally, the DRLs should activate when the transmission is out of Park; alternatively, I could also live with "any time the engine is running." The relay I have can be wired as "normal open" or "normal closed."
According to my test light, every circuit in the underhood fuse box seems to test out as constantly hot.
Can anyone help me? Many thanks in advance!

Do you not have a "auto" light switch where the lights come on when put into gear or it's dark outside? Mine does and that is what I use as my DRL. All the lights are on which is helpfull during poor weather. Canadian here ...

The "Auto" position on my headlights switch is affected only by light/dark; nothing additonal when it's put into gear. Even fog lights won't illuminate while in Auto unless it's dark enough for the sensor to trip.
Mine when I put it in gear does come on. I guess it's different on USA models.
