HID hi/low beam

Im about to order Xenon 8000k HIDs for both fogs and low beams. Do i really need the high beams or is it a waste of money to do highs and just get lows and fogs? thx

Well you would have to define "waste" for us. IMO, it would be a waste of money to put PnP HIDs in stock fog lamps/head lamps, period.

Technically speaking, HIDs don't have a "high and low" beam. In a 9007 or H13 housing, HIDs are located at the normal "high beam" spot of the old halogen filament. So you are always on "high beam" (thus causing 90% of the glaring issues). The magnetic base then pushes or pulls the bulb forward or back, but again- this isn't how high/low optics work, so whatever is left of a crappy beam is just going to get skewed around even more.

I installed bi-xenon HIDs in my truck when I was 16. It took me two years to realize the "coolness" of blue lights doesn't supersede the usefulness of proper light output, beam spread, and a functional high beam. A year and a half after I had bought bi-xenon HIDs, I junked them and put normal Silverstar halogens back and and I'm glad I did. Here is what my lights looked like before with the crappy eBay HIDs:

That is stock aiming points. I had to drop them a good 15* downward to stop blinding people (I got flashed all the time) and by the time they were low enough not to bother other people, I had nothing but glorified fog lights they were pointed so low. I couldn't see maybe 50 feet in front of the truck. You don't want to see what the "high beams" looked like.

My bixenon kit shows a difference between "high" and "low", but you're experience may vary.

Brace yourself for the "HIDs only in Projectors!"

Many of the people here are running dangerous setups by putting plug-n-play HID kits in their reflector housings thus causing blinding glare to oncoming drivers. The only way to run HIDs properly is with a proper optical system such as a xenon projector. However, 90% of the people here who have never seen or touched one knock them because they have no idea how optics work and how their lights are burning everyones retinas at night. They are in denial, but thats okay because I was naive when I was 16 too.

You can read all about it here

It seems as though you are implying your retrofit is legal?

Well how much are you wanting to spend? If you are handy with cutting, you can do a retrofit for under $300. The results speak for themselves.
