I have recently blacked out my headlights and put a strip of led lights across the bottom and they look weird with my stock headlights on. I am wanting to switch to HID's and was wondering if anyone has had trouble with them? Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. I'll try to get pics up of the front of my truck, but the led strip is so bright that it is hard to see what it really looks like. Thanks.

 

Try turning down your ISO and shutter speed to get a better picture.

The whole reason I was asking is because I have a friend who has traded in his truck for a new charger, and before doing so he removed his HID's. Now he wants to install them on my truck. He was babbling on about a capacitor or resistor or something, i really wasnt listening to him, but i do not know much about HID kits. He claims it to be a plug n play kit. I just don't want something to mess up with the factory stuff down the line and I have fix it to have headlights again. He said he got the hid kit from hidextra.com. he has 6000k bulbs and 8000k bulbs for the kit too.

 

While they are true plug and play kits, the output is going to be horrible. You shouldn't need a capacitor or resistor unless you are dealing with LEDs.

 

So basically what you are saying is that I shouldn't waste my time with these and actually invest in a nice set?

Yes basically. The UV radiation from cheap PnP HIDs will eat away the chrome in your housings.

that strip looks really good. i needed a capacitor to stop what little flickering issues i had when i ran them. heres a pic of 6k bi-xenon heads and 6k fogs. this pic is with high beams and fogs on:

 

Where did you get the capacitor from?

 

ebay. or you can go to retro-solutions.com they have them there i believe.

a capacitor is a band aide for the problem, a relay is the proper way to wire them up, many hid sellers sell a relay harness to make it easier to install, but most decent hids come with the relay harness

 

The PnP kit I have has relays with it.
