Heater core how to pics
As you know the complete dash will need to come out to get to the heater core . I took some pic to show what you will need to do . if you not feel comfortable doing this and you are in the North Texas area near D/FW and dont want to pay the dealer and arm and a leg , email me , I will save you hundreds , or we can trade out on something .

Okay.
I looked at the pics a few days ago and I'm still in shock. That is NOT a job for the light hearted. With my luck, I'd put it all back together and realize I forgot to tighten something and have to take the whole thing apart again.
Taking an engine out looks easier than that.

SVT2B - I have to agree with Dennis, those pictures are amazing! Out of curiosity, I looked at a Haynes manual and they totally oversimplified the process.
How long did it take you to remove everything and put it all back together? I have a leak in my A/C system and it is looking like the problem is under the dash.

I think you did...
too much work.
It could be that you have a different year truck and therefore different teardown procedures. I swapped out the heater core last week and took lots of pics as well, mostly for my benefit to insure proper replacement of all the parts.
I also had the benefit of the shop quide that a friend got for me that took me step by step through the entire project. If I had gone by Haynes or Chilton, I'd still be putting together all the pieces and would have run out of effeective four letter words.
I don't think you needed to strip all the parts off the dash in order to get to the core. My job certainly didn't look that intensive. I did have to drop the steering column and of course disconnect the electrical underneath both sides. But the face of the dash stayed on...much unlike your pics showed. My entire dash came off in a unit after disconnecting the essential parts from the cab of the truck. I had some vacation days to use so I took lots of time. It's still a big job, but in retrospect, it was easier cuz I had the shop manual directions. It should take a long day to do it if you take your time but work steadily (provided you don't encounter any major problems along the way)
If anyone wants to swap out the heater or AC core...get ahold of the shop manual version of the replacement process. Even if you have to pay for it, it's very much worth the $$$.
I have detailed pics as well if anyone wants to see them. Ihaven't yet created an F150 page for myself so I'd have to email them.
Good luck...Scott

I dont know what the manual shows , but mine is a early 97 (Build Jan 96). Lots of parts were changed after 6/1/1997 .I am not sure what changes were made to the dash .
Everything had to be removed to get to the many hidden screws .
Anyway it took about a few hours to remove ,fix , and put it all back with no extra parts .
Rotties , did you take any pics ?
