Question Odd problem with my A/C

I searched the forums and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for so hopefully y'all can help me. I can't get air to blow out of the vents. Even tried out the floor. Nothing. It all blows out where the defrost would. The compressor works and the AC cooled air blows out of the defrost vents when A/C or Max A/C is on. But its as if the switch on the dash has gone out. Just functions as an on/off switch for the defrost vents. Anyone else have this problem and am I right about maybe just a bad switch. Any help would be great - its very hot in Houston ! Thanks

I'm not positive but fairly sure that if you have a vacuum leak or problem in your hvac, the default exit of air is through the defrost vents. If this is true then maybe you should look for a split hose or disconected hose, espsecially if you have been working under your hood or dash.....hope this helps

I did have the dash off to install my new lights, but that was about 2 weeks ago. And the A/C worked perfectly this morning. When I got back from class, that's when the problem started. I'll look at the hoses though. Thanks!

Unhappy Me Too!!

I've had the same problem with my '02. It's been that way since I bought it, I just haven't had time to get back to the dealer. It mostly happens when I shut the truck down for a short time like getting gas or a short stop. I haven't been under the hood doing any mods. Like I said, it has happens since day one. I just thought I hadn't figured out the auto temp control!!

Katoom: Since you have the Electronic Auto temp control you should be able to push the FLOOR AND OFF buttons at the same time followed in 2 seconds or less by pressing the AUTOMATIC button. This should display trouble codes. You will probably see 024 or 022 -Blend door short, or possibly 025 blend door failure. There are other codes that I can furnish if you want. You can exit diagnostics by pressing the blue button (the codes will be saved) or DEFROST (codes erased 888 system reset).

I suspect a similar problem for you Aggie, except I don't think you have an electronic display. You may have crimped the wires to the Blen Door Actuator. Check fuse 5(15A) to see if is blown. If it's OK follow the LT Blue/Pink to the Actuator. The door control wires are Red/Lt Green, Red/White, and Yellow/Lt Green.

Good luck!

PS: All this from the Haynes manual, I'm no HVAC expert.

Thumbs up

Just got the A/C problem fixed. I recently replaced my battery - about 2 weeks ago when I installed the lights, and apparently some battery acid had come in contact with one of the hoses. A simple replacement fixed everything. $35 total. Not too bad. So you were right S'CrewLoose, a did have a vacuum leak. Thanks for the info, even if it was sort of a guess.
