Question AC working when in non AC modes??

I picked up the truck today and after it got cooler in the day, I turned it to fan only and it seemed to be real cool even 1 hour later. When we tried out the truck a week ago the AC didn't even work, I assume they filled it with freon or whatever they use now. Do you suppose the AC is stuck running with the fan, and can I tell if it is by looking under the hood?

a/c running?....

first you have to know that regulation mandate that the fan should run at it,s lowest speed and circulate the air in the cab with fresh air when the settings are set at the off posistion....you can regulate the air temp by turning the temp **** just slightly, even when you have the switch at off......the compressor will run at all settings except panel and off, lift the hood and eyeball the end of the compressor and youll see it turn then stop then turn then stop..this is normal with the exception of tempurature...it will effect the duration of cycling on the compressor...if your concerned any shop worth it,s salt will be able to diagnose any problems with the system.
