Suddenly no cold air
Suddenly no cold air
Like I'm sure has happened to many others, I had a problem with my F150, went to the internet for advice and found what appears to be a fantastic resource-- nice website! My problem is that on my '98 truck (smaller V-8) which has blown very cold air since new, all of a sudden when starting this morning after being parked for two days the A/C produces NO cold air, while blowers and modes seem to switch and work correctly. An initial brief check at a repair shop found that it had not lost any refrigerant (if anything was slightly over full) and I think he said was producing pressure. He said first they would replace expansion tube, accumulator, and fully flush/recharge system (about $400). If not that then replace compressor raising amount to near $1000. I can't help but think that the SUDDEN loss of cooling would be more like a C/B or switch or loss of refrigerant (already discounted). Any response or advice would be appreciated, at any rate I will try to post my findings once it is resolved. Also, do most people recommend dealer service or an independant service center? Thanks in advance, by the way I am in the Alpharetta GA area. Thanks! Mustang51
I had what sounds like the same problem with my 99 Expedition. After several trips to the dealer and nothing really found, an AC mechanic finally concluded there was a problem with the vacuum control behind the dash. He pulled the radio for access, and apparently found a vacuum line that was pinched. That was about a year ago, has been fine since.

Not sure how relevant, but here it is....
Had a similar problem with my '97F150. After sitting all day, it would blow hot or cold air (usually opposite of what I wanted). Turned out the be the blend control on the dash...$15 fix & 15 minutes of my time.

Thanks for the replies, and F150Tony, my problem was similar to yours. The blend control potentiometer had failed-- as time went on, I could feel that the switch was breaking down. The part was eleven dollars and change, and like you said about fifteen minutes to replace. I feel like I dodged a bullet! Thanks again.
