Unhappy No heat control, then heat control OK?!?!

On a cold start in the AM, as the engine warms, I have no heat control. Then, as I rotate the control back & forth once or twice, it starts to work & I get warm air moving. Never noticed it before, but now I've needed the defroster in the morning.

I haven't had a chance to check my manuals yet...working too many hours this week.

Thanks for any ideas.

Tony

I'm having a similar problem with mine too. But I get no hot air all. Some of the members suggested to me that there may a problem with the motor that controls temperature blend door. Unfortunately it's near the firewall in the cab on the pass. side And the disassembly for me at this moment will take more time than I have.

Search for a thread on heaters in the engines section to catch up and maybe you can teach me something if you get to it before I do.

are you saying that there is no air blowing?

there may be a strategy with prevents the system from blowing air, out of the floor duct, until the coolant has reached a certain temperature.

The blower should work with no problems in defrost

Update

I finally got tired of the intermittent problem....particularly when it's 110F outside and the heater decides to blow hot air!

I replaced the control (pot) on the dash. ~20 minutes and ~$15. For the last month, I've had no problems. Easy to replace, even for the mildly mechanically inclined.

Unhappy $15

$15! I just bought one today. I looked in this forum to post the part #.

Mine is a '98 with air, i'm sure auto air is different, but all the others should be the same.

It lists retail for $11. I got mine for $6.43 with tax. I work for an auto group that includes Ford.
