2007 blend door home position

My daughter bought a '07 FX4.

Manual a/c controls stuck in full hot and was clicking. Checked the door and it moves freely. Replaced the blend door motor/actuator with dorman. A dorman was in it prior. The replacement worked a couple of times and then same problem stuck in hot and you can hear the gears binding but not clicking. When I installed the actuator noticed it was set at a different home position than the door. Did key on key off several times to get it to line up with the shaft. Set to cold and as soon as moved to hot it will not come back to cold. Checking the door I noticed with the blower motor running the door gets sucked to the heat side and takes some effort to move to cold. This has me wondering if the actuator is not strong enough to move the door and/or is the wrong one since factory home was not the correct position. I have ordered a Motorcraft version.

Can anyone tell me how to home it and which position is home. Cold or hot?
