2007 blend door home position

My daughter bought a '07 FX4.

Manual a/c controls stuck in full hot and was clicking. Checked the door and it moves freely. Replaced the blend door motor/actuator with dorman. A dorman was in it prior. The replacement worked a couple of times and then same problem stuck in hot and you can hear the gears binding but not clicking. When I installed the actuator noticed it was set at a different home position than the door. Did key on key off several times to get it to line up with the shaft. Set to cold and as soon as moved to hot it will not come back to cold. Checking the door I noticed with the blower motor running the door gets sucked to the heat side and takes some effort to move to cold. This has me wondering if the actuator is not strong enough to move the door and/or is the wrong one since factory home was not the correct position. I have ordered a Motorcraft version.

Can anyone tell me how to home it and which position is home. Cold or hot?

Thanks

I believe the blend door shaft is indexed and the motor can only be installed one direction

Yep the shaft is indexed but you can bumper the actuator motor around so it lines up with the index point. The problem is that point does not line up with the factory index mark on the actuator case.

Wanted to follow up with what I found in case someone else searches for this.

It turns out the problem was with the dorman actuators I was trying. The Dorman units wouldn't line up correctly or move the door both ways.

Bought an OEM Ford unit and it dropped right in. All works good now.

Glad to hear that you got it worked out. Goes to show that some aftermarket products don't quite work as they should.
