Fixed! blend door. Slide show inside.
Door broke over a year ago I live in AZ not having A/C is a sin, it only worked when the door stayed in place. Following the write-up posted on this forum I found it easier to follow the tutorial for pulling the dash away instead of removing it. I took my time about 2.5 days due to excessive heat and torn tendons in my shoulder makes for getting into tight spots really tough.
I would like to note, that on my 1998 F150 I had 3 floor braces 2 of which must be completely removed from the dash & floor, you also do not need to remove the antenna mount from the outside no matter how much I pulled on that wire it wouldn't budge, just pull the retaining tabs off the underside of the dash that hold the antenna cable in place. I don't know why people make a big deal about it if the cable drops into the fender just pull the inner fender out its like 4 screws you can get it from there. Also to facilitate installation of the blend door assembly use a large zip tie and pull the heater core up just a little bit maybe an 1/8" its like having a 3rd hand in a confined space then remove it after your repair.
The top covers on the dash that hide the 2 screws will most likely be brittle & bust into multiple pieces when you pry up, my advice if you've broken one already carefully get under the dash with pliers and break off the push connector underneath you can use 2 sided tape under that later, I broke the first one into 5 pieces a dash cover will hide it. I removed the inner glove box portion so I didn't have to fight that while dealing with the airbag.
Marking baggies with steps and number of screws really helped, I also removed most of the trim panels, the entire radio chassis and climate controls. I did not remove any plugs on the drivers side floor. There was a plug way up under dash on the passenger side that I did not find until removal of dash was underway. Common sizes I ran into was 9/32, 5/16, 7 & 8 mm shallow sockets, 10 & 13mm Deep sockets. I did not have any use for wrenches of any kind, magnet wand and extensions were really handy and a cordless nut driver helped spin out dash screws.
Airbag on passenger side at first I was nervous about messing with it even though the system had the power depleted (disconnect at starter relay and junction block on pass side in engine compartment + the battery), looking at the back of the unit I saw this medium sized bottle of Argon inside it
. Sounds like fun when it goes off.
Anyway, here is a link to pictures I took during removal. http://s1357.photobucket.com/user/sl...w/Blend%20Door
