Blend Door Actuator Motor Question

Anyone know if the blend door actuator motor will respond to moving the temperature control **** ... if the ignition switch is ON, but the HVAC selector **** is in the OFF position?

I'm trying to determine if the motor is running in response to changes of the temperature control **** without pulling the motor ... and the only way to stop the fan from creating noise is to turn off the HVAC.

Also thought about using a stethoscope to block out unrelated noise.

You can get a look at it turning, but its a tight space, probely slip some paper in there and feel it move. stethoscope should work to, Just a idea! Dont know about the key thing, trucks not here right now.

Whats going on?

NO HEAT (or very little)

The motor DOES run with the HVAC selector **** in the OFF position. I tried it using a stethoscope, and could easily hear the motor powering on and off as I turn the temperature control **** back and forth.

This is sort of bad news though ... in the last 2 years, I've paid the local Ford dealer to:

* replace the blend door (2007)

* replace the temperature control **** (2008)

* replace the temperature control potentiometer (2009)

The first repair ran something like $700-800 (dash removal, etc.), and it seemed to correct the problem of "no heat" ... but it didn't last ... and neither of my 2 subsequent return visits corrected the problem.

So ... after discovering that the (new) actuator motor IS RUNNING, can I assume that the blend door has broken for a second time?

If it's broken again ... how about a "jack leg" fix? ... drill a hole in the plenum box, reach in with some sort of hook, and pull the door all the way toward the passenger area!

You need to see the heater treater web site, its easy! Watch the videos for some insite. Im trying to make mine manual operated on a 99. You might be able to remove the moter and stick something like a popsickel stick up there and turn the door. Just leave the motor disconnected tthen.

I've watched those 2 videos at least a dozen times. With 20/20 hindsight, I should have bought one of their doors and had the Ford dealer install it instead of the Ford part back in 2007.

Now all I want is heat for my trip north next week!

Doing that chop take about 15 minutes, just tape the door open, not covering the heat core, leave moter out. You will have full heat. Cold sucks, no defrost sucks to.
