a/c Clutch Replacement

a/c Clutch Replacement

I have a 98 F-150 4.6L 2WD. Mechanic told me a/c clutch needs replaced because the field coil is bad. I was able to get the clutch plate, pully and field coil off without too much trouble using the pulley remover tool. The problem i am having is getting the field coil back onto the spindle from the compressor. Is there a special tool I need to press the coil on? Right now the truck is siting on jack stands in my driveway and I need to get it at least running again. Thanks

now im trying to bypass the compressor all together. i have the tensioner pulley for the non-a/c set up. do i need a different tensioner assembly?

Obviously try some lube. If that does not work, you may have the wrong parts. Make sure you get the parts from a Ford dealer or at least double check your part #s. Sometimes, part #s are changed mid-year and you have to specify your VIN. A Ford dealer will know this, AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts employees will not. If all else fails, you might be able to buy a belt for your truck without the A/C. This will at least get you back on the road until you figure things out.
