low freon?

so today at work i started the truck up and turned on Max AC and went inside to grab my glasses and ran back outside (aobut 3-5 mins later) and the truck was hot as ***** inside. the truck was blowing hot air. i could hear the compressor kicking on for 5-10 seconds and shutting off. when i get moving, the compressor will stay on. am i low on freon? and where do i recharge my system?

You can recharge the system through the lower pressure port thats at the dryer. To charge the system would require you jump wiring the lower pressure switch to keep the compressor pumping.
If you had good A/C yesterday and not today you may have a major leak that would have to be fixed first.

well i wouldnt say it was good and today not as good. the only thing changing is that it wont chill while idling.

would you happen to have a picture showing me where the lower port is at? and how do you do this jump-wiring thing? last time i charged freon I screwed in a dang can and shot it into the system with the truck running. i understand its because the compressor isnt remaining on, but if i drive for a little while it will remain on. then can i just do a simple charge?

The low pressure tap is on the side of the accumulator. The accumulator is mounted to the firewall. I generally charge mine to about 32 psi, while the engine is at 1800 RPM. To jump the compressor switch, I get the owners manual out to locate the compressor relay, and then jump it with a piece of wire. Be sure to purge the freon supply line before connecting, so as not to get humidity in the system.

There is no need to jumper the cycling switch. The system will still charge based on the difference in pressures in the system and in the supply container.

I like to put the supply container in a bucket of warm (100F) water for 10 minutes first. The slightly raised temperature helps speed things up.
