03 F150 4.6 A/C on regardless of switch setting.

Having an issue with my 03 F150 4.6 where the A/C is on regardless of switch setting. (Except it doesn't blow in the 'off' setting.) No matter what I set it to, floor, vent, etc. the A/C is always on.

I have it at the dealership right now and they are telling me it is due to overheating of the colling system... that all I need is a new rad hose and a flush.

This sounds like complete BS to me. As far as I am aware the A/C will shut OFF if the vehicle overheats, not turn on. Also it acts this even when first started. (And the truck never overheats).

Do you have automatic temperature control? Is the A/C performing ok?

i just bought a used 03 4.6 and also notice the same problem! i'm wondering how to save gas when the a/c is still blowing on panel/floor setting.

is there somewhere I can look up my truck by VIN to see what options it has? I don't know if I have climate control or not. Where would the dial be?

thx for posting the thread - i was just going to start one about the problem and scrolled down to see your topic

i just googled the climate control and mine does look like this on on ebay:

does that mean climate control? do you have to turn the temp from cold to warm to get the a/c to stop blowing, or is the a/c compressor always on no matter what?

thanks for any advice

i think i found out how to check it from the forum archive posts:

https://www.f150online.com/forums/ar.../t-215052.html

A/C compressor is active in all dial setting except; off, floor only and vent only. The strategy for all the other settings allows the A/C compressor to cycle. This would provide cold air when the temp setting is in the blue region and warm dehumidified air in the red region. Ford only provides the dial setting with the A/C symbol because that is what most people recognize.
at least in my case, I'll give it a try today. I never tried vent or floor only settings. with the cooler weather here, it would be nice to not have it run.

I have a similiar problem...although it's not the same. My blower only blows air out of the defrost vents. It doesnt matter what I have selected (A/C, vent, etc.) it still blows out of the defrost vent. The different speed settings still work, and it turns off, but that is the only selection I can make. Do I have a problem with my switch, or could it be the vacuum system? Any help is appreciated. It's on an 04 F-250 6.0L.
