'00 Expedition ... A/C Clutch Not Engaging
'00 Expedition ... A/C Clutch Not Engaging
I posted earlier about my a/c not showing power at the fuses or relay (as said by my mechanic). My symptons were the a/c blowing warm air and the compressor not turning on. The refrigerant levels were checked and showed fine.
Today, I start experimenting on my own. After noticing that the clutch was not engaging, I began some informal trouble shooting. Replaced all a/c fuses and blower relay. Clutch not engaging still.
Tapped on the clutch while the a/c was on, and got no response. So, I popped off the clutch to remove a shim or two. Low and behold, there is only one shim.
Has anyone had that issue?
I removed that one shim and the clutch would engage and disengage randomly. At this point, I am not sure what to do. Do I need a new clutch? Or, is there some type of repair kit available?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have power at the connector on the A/C clutch? If so, the clutch needs to be replaced. If not, you need to find the cause of the circuit failure. If you find there is no power to the clutch, you need to put the shim back in. If the clutch is bad, you will have to reshim the new clutch to specs.
