Compressor click noise?

I get a Tick sound sometimes that is only one tick and then maybe another in 20 seconds. Is it possible this is the compressor? If so would it make the sound while the control is set to off? I have not been able to pinpoint it and am worried I might have a spark plug coming loose.

Try leaving it on MAX and the tick will go away. The AC will not cycle on and off. That is what you are hearing, the AC clutching engaging and dis-engaging.

You can lift the hood and watch the cluth spin when engaged, the the click and the pulley will continue but the clutch will stop spinng, from releasing from the compressor.

Let us know if that is NOT the problem. i have read that unless the system is OFF, the ac can/may engage even in heat. Turn it OFF and see if the ticking stops.

The MAX setting has ZERO effect on the cycling rate. Cycling rate is determine by thermodynamics. Primary factors are the ambient temperature, amount of heat transferred, and the system's efficiency.

The compressor is enabled in ALL settings except OFF, VENT, and FLOOR.

Open the hood and look under it to locate the source of the clicking.

I am getting the click with control set to off. It is very hard to pin point location because you have to rev it a little and then there will be only one tick and then in maybe 15 seconds one more. I guess to be safe I'll probably take to dealership and have plugs changed just in case one is loose. Unless today I can figure it out.

Thanks!

If it is unrelated to the A/C compressor operation, then the list of possibilites is kind of wide open.

Things to consider include the plugs, an exhaust manifold stud, or perhaps just benign noise cause by heating of the exhaust system.

Good luck and let us know.
