98 Exp heater problems never end

Last winter the heater started giving me trouble in my 98 Expedition. The heat would be hot at first then gradually lose heat until it was blowing cold. You could turn it off for a few minutes then back on and it would be a little warm again but not for long. This was only in the front, the back heat worked fine. Also, the temp **** was stripped out or something. You had to take it off and on to get it to the position you wanted. In January I gave in and took it to the dealership. It was $724.00 for the following:
Installed: MOTOR ASY
Installed: **** HEATER CONTROL
REPLACED BLEND DOOR MOTOR AND TEMP ****
BACK FLUSHED FRONT HEATER CORE
And, of course nothing had changed except the **** felt a little tighter for a while but everything else was unchanged. So back to the shop and at no charge:
Installed: **** HEATER CONTROL
Installed: POTENTIOMETER ASY
INSPECTED AND REPLACED TEMP CONTROL SWITCH
No surprise. Still not fixed. And started smelling anti-freeze when running the air and a different, stale odor when turning **** to heat. Next visit to the shop cost me $400 for:
Installed: HEATER ASY – LESS RADIATOR
Installed: ANTI-FREEZE
Installed: VINEGAR
Installed: WATER
REPLACED HEATER CORE AND FLUSHED COOLING SYSTEM
Finally, the heater is working in the front. However, now the BACK heat is doing the same thing! Heat comes on but doesn’t stay hot. WHY??!! Could they have done something to cause this? Also, on the driver’s side the carpet is still wet and stinky like anti-freeze. Any ideas besides the obvious…..SELL !!!
