06 SuperCrew XLT A/C not cold enough
06 SuperCrew XLT A/C not cold enough
Just wanted to share this on going A/C issue with some 04-06 F150's. I had a 04 supercab with A/C problems at only 750 miles. Well took it back to the dealership and they were able to fix it right away. New compressor and they evactuated the system and refilled it. A/C was blowing 43.7 degrees. Well the most recent A/C issue is with my 06 supercrew that i just bought brand new in august 2006. Only had 535 miles and it was blowing hot air for about 15-20 mins before it would start cooling. Also left drivers side shakes while driving highway speeds. I think it's bad continential tires. But that's another issue in itself. Took it to the dealership 3 times to try and get it right. 1st trip there, they couldn't find anything wrong with it, they said they contacted ford engineers and they found nothing wrong with it. I had to get the customer relations person to test ride the vehicle with me and she saw it was blowing hot air. Left the truck there for 4 days and then they replaced the cycling switch, and said it was fixed. Wrong, it was still blowing hot air upon start up. They insisted that it was normal on the f150 06 supercrew. I went and bought a simple indoor/outdoor digital thermometer. I just put the sensor wire inside the vent and it was pretty accurate after comparing it in 2 other vehicles. I went back to the dealership AGAIN and asked to speak to the general manager about the issue, and he went and checked out the truck and definitely said there is something wrong, he said his service dept would evacuate the system and recharge it. Well the next day service dept called and said it's fixed. They replaced the fan clutch this time, but didn't evacuate the system. So i went to check the a/c and it did not blow any hot air like before, but now it's not getting cold enough. It was blowing at about 59-61 degrees on max a/c setting 4 after 25-30mins. I told them it still wasn't working correctly. Left it one more day, and the service manager never evacuated the system like the GM said to do. He drove it around and said it was blowing 29-33 degrees, which was BS. Ended up taking it to another dealership to get a 2nd opinion, they had it for 3 days and claim it was cooling in the low 40's. I told them it's still cooling to about 59 degrees on max a/c on the highest setting. He says bring it back on a hot afternoon and we'll test it again. After another week, went to ANOTHER ford service dept and told them about the issue, and said to bring it back the next morning to have it inspected. Well they found a leak around the compressor and had to put a o ring kit, and they evacuted and refilled the a/c system, and NOW it's blowing 42degrees on max setting 4. I hope alot of you truck owners have not had this much trouble as I've have. This has been the worst new purchase experience ever. Whatever you do don't let the service dept try that IT'S NORMAL line on you. There are some bad A/C systems on the 04-06 f150's. ever since the new body style it seems there are more A/C issues. Had the 02 f150 and that A/C would freeze you out of the truck.
Thanks for all of the information. My new '06 Supercrew just doesn't blow as cold as my '01 Supercab did. The '01 would blow 40 deg air no matter what. My '06 blows around 50 deg and sometimes warms up slightly when I'm getting into the gas. I'm tempted to just take it to a shop and pay a few bucks rather than dealing with the service dept.
some of the same issues discussed in this thread ..

I have not had the lose of cooling under acceleration issue since the dealership checked it out a couple of weeks ago .. but I still have the no cold air if A/C was already on when I start the truck ..
at least I wll still need the A/C in November when Ford fixes it.. , since I am in Texas ..
