Vacuum loss fix?

The wife says air is only coming out of the floor or defroster (no vent air) on the 2000 Expedition. I've read (here) about the battery area and have isolated the hole in a tiny black plastic vacuum line. Question is : What is the best way to correct the hole? Tape? New lines? RTV? Rubber hose? Etc?

I've heard that if not fixed right, you will get a 'rush' of air out of the defroster at engine start while the vacuum is reapplied. Then air will come out of the vent again. This should be easy, right? No need to have a 'vacuum pulled' at a shop?

Thanks so much

Pick up a short (1-2") piece of 5/16 ID rubber vacuum line Just cut the old line cleanly at the hole, then slip the ends into the rubber line to make a splice. A little liquid soap aids assembly. Saliva also will work.

The 5/16" size will give a good enough seal to keep it working correctly.

The hose will be available at most auto parts stores or at better stocked hardware stores.
