How does this work?

I have replaced the heater core on my newly acquired 99 Expy about a month ago. That fixed the leak but now the blend door is acting up. It blew ice-cold when it was set to full heat. Both lines running to the core get blazin hot too so I know coolant is flowing just fine. THen after a couple days, it blew hot air shortly after I heard a 'thump'. Then a few days later, it blew ice cold again. This went on for a few weeks like this... then in the last 3 weeks, it has not blown hot or warm air once. Now that it's frikkin cold in the frozen tundra. Great.

Anyway, I have resigned to the fact that I botched the dashboard reassembly somewhere along the way and I will be tearing into the dash in the very near future to fix this.

What I need to know is how does the blend door work? More specifically, what actuates it? Is it a vaccuum diaphragm or a little DC servo... hamsters in a wire wheel? I plan to make sure that there is nothing binding or blocking the blend door but I would also like to follow the connections from the temp control to the blend door to make sure nothing is cut, diconnected, pinched ect. And right now, I don't know what I am looking for (wire or Vac line).

If anyone has write-ups of the dash and or blend door R&R please email them to sleepermaxima@hotmail.com

Thanks in advance.
