New compressor louder than original. Normal?

I just had a new compressor installed in my 1999 f-150 4.2 5 speed. I've noticed that this compressor cycles more often and clicks louder than the original one, no matter what setting i have it on-max a/c, a/c.Also sounds like a hissing sound coming from it .Is this normal? The original one lasted 6 years which i guess is a long time for an American truck.! Is there a "break in" period for new compressors? It was checked for leaks and everything is fine. It just seems to operate differently than the first one. Clutch is good too.It feels good again to get a blast of cold air!

My 05 clicks about every 20 seconds or so but the a/c works fine so i guess it is alright. Was wondering what the clicking was till i started reading some of these threads. I feel better.

Might I inquire how much it cost to replace yours? I'm getting mine replaced this week or next.

My wifes nephew is a mechanic. He used the air conditioning shop for his customers cars. He charged me $500.00 for a new compressor, lines, serpintine belt, charge the system. I was quoted over 700.00 for the same work by another shop.Since my last post, the loud clicking and frequent cycling by the compressor was caused by a faulty one. He is going to install another one this Friday. I'll let you know how this one turns out!
