bad compressor?
Um, define "clicking sound." Clicking as in the compressor clutch engaging and disengaging, clicking as in rapidly from the compressor itself? If it's not cooling very well, it may be low on refrigerant, but it's difficult to say otherwise. Might want to have it checked out by an A/C specialist.
Clicking noises can come from a number of things. as alway, when touble shooting any thing you need a starting place. start by getting a set of gages hooked up to the system. a set that will give you both the high and low side at same time.checkyour system pressure first with the A/C off you should start out with presures being equal.and then again wth it operating on high or max.the high side should be up close to 200 and the low side around 30 to 45 depending on the ambient temp. write down the presures corrispnding to the clicking if its short cycling or unloading when you here the cilck the presures will start to equalize and spread back out when it loads back up or clicks again. post your reading along with the amidient temp at the time and we can go from there.
