I have a 97 F150 xlt and when I run the AC it cools ok but has a dusty- musty smell? Is there a filter somewhere for the AC system?

 

No there is no filter, might be some slime (mold, alge ) on the evaporator coil, make sure that the little drain whole is dripping water when it is running. You can also run a ozone machine in the car, you can rent them at hardware store. They use them in South Florida here to get rid of Smoke smell in used cars.

 

Not unless someone added one. Ford used to offer an add-on cabin air filter kit, but it's been obsolete for a couple years now. The parts are still available separately though.

As far as the smell goes, Frigi-Fresh works very well.
