Vent Temp when NOT set to Auto

I have a “Ford Neophyte” question relating to my 2005 F150 King Ranch. When I manually set the temperature control to 70 and the fan speed to half and select panel (or even panel and floor), the temperature out of the vents is warm, definitely not 70.

If I were to follow the same steps in my 2003 Tahoe Z71, the air out of the vents is cold. In both circumstances, I do not turn on the A/C, nor do I use the “Auto” feature.

Does the Ford require the A/C to be turned on to drop the temperature, when NOT using the auto feature? Is this just “one of those differences”?

My '04 Lariat does the same thing. Nature of the beast. I wouldn't worry about it, hit the A/C button and let 'er ride.
