AC compressor replacement
Hello,
I have a 1987 F-150, 502 V8 with an aftermarket airconditioner. I bought the truck off the lot in 1987 and had the Ford dealer install air conditioning at the dealer. I have had to recharge the system over the years intermittently but the last few years, I've had to recharge almost every year. I'm looking into replacing the compressor because the last time i recharged it, the shop told me that the compressor had a leak.
Is it possible to repair a leak or do I have to replace the entire compressor? Is replacing it a difficult job? I was told last year that the compressor would cost around $300, I figure it would cost another $200 for labor at the shop.
Any input is much appreciated.
