Quintin you were right

Thanks for the help on wifey's A/C-------- it was exactly as you said (CCRM) --- New part from ford is $166 one from salvage yard is $10, hers works just fine now. One more quick question, my son has a '97 4 door escort and that A/C is also broken but I can't find a used CCRM for his car, could it be they changed the part #s or would any other part # work ----- Service P/N F7CF-12B577-AB

Awesome! I love a happy ending

In regards to your son's car, if it's the CCRM as well, the part number really depends...part numbers are upgraded lots of times. I'll go out on a limb and say that within a CCRM within a model year or two will work.

When you say broken, like how? The compressor doesn't engage? The system is charged, yes?

Quintin He bought this car a few months ago and the A/C was not working, The previous owner said it was working fine last summer. Previous owner also said he could jumper the wire to the compressor and make the A/C work. I tried to add some R134-A and could not get any in the system. --------- The clutch will not engage------thanks again for your help

Okay, on top of the accumulator is the low pressure switch. There's a two pin connector going to it. Disconnect it and while the engine is running and the A/C is on, use a fairly heavy guage (10-12 guage or so) wire and jump across the terminals on the switch connector, see if the compressor engages. If it does, let it run for a bit to see if it gets cold. If there's no refrigerant in the system, the low pressure switch won't energize the compressor clutch. Likewise, if the switch is faulty, it won't energize.
