climate controls

I have a 97 Ford F150 and I am having a problem with the climate controls. No matter what postion that I put the vent control in, the air only comes out of the defroster. I can put on a/c or panel or floor, but it still comes out of the defroster.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have a vacuum leak somewhere in the system. Look between the battery and the firewall. There is a black vacuum tube that runs into the firewall. That is the supply hose to the hvac system. Unplug it from the first connector that it goes to. Start the truck and check to see if there is vacuum at the fitting that you unplugged it from. If there is, then your problem is inside the truck. If there is not, there your problem is in the vacuum hoses or tubes under the hood. There is also a vacuum canister in the right fender behind the battery. If your battery is or ever has leaked acid it could have eaten a hole in it, or the tubing.

I looked under the hood, and found 2 different hoses completely broken in two. What would be the best way to fix this problem?
Would it be better to get the whole assembly or would just getting some new hose and splicing them back?

I would appreciate any ideas.

Climate Control

I have the same problem with my 1997. I had the dealer run diagnostics last week. We have a faulty vacuum switch and bellow.

I have an appointment this week for them to replace both parts. Total expense with labor $255.00.

The Vacuum switch costs: $20.00
Bellow: Approx. $50.00

Good luck.

Just get some rubber vacuum hose that the plastic tubing will fit into tightly and splice it back together.
