I think this topic has been covered before.... My thermostat control **** was slipping, and sure enough, it was broke. The dealer told me it was the cable, and it would take $$$ to fix it. I bought the replacement **** from the dealer for $13.00, and it's back to normal.

 

This site pays agian. Dealer might have thought the cable was binding and that broke the **** ( If you want to play devils advocate) I haven't checked but is there a way to lube the cable?

Uhm, there is no cable on the 97 and newer trucks. Everything is either electric or vacuum.
