Resirculation & A/C switch

I've gotten spoiled by driving our minivan in Atlanta traffic because it has a recirculation switch that helps minimize the amount of fumes you breathe in during rush hour.

I found a switch I liked and finally got it installed over the weekend. I am fairly pleased with how it turned out.

I guess you wanted recirculate in another mode than Max A/C? Nice job!

Also, I can now prevent the compressor from running, like when the HVAC selector is in the Floor/Panel setting.

Where did you get the switch? I would like to do the same thing to my 03 Expy. The 03 allows you to have recirc only in MAX AC mode and you cannot adjust the temp on the 03 in MAX AC mode. I hate this. Can you provide additional details on where to get the switch etc.

Thanks!

Raybestos Switch

What was the Raybestos switch you replaced near the differential ?
Am I correct in assuming the A/C compressor can be run in any mode except "off" the way you have it set up ?
Is the compressor still forced on in the defrost mode ?

The Raybestos component is used for the RABS. I guess they fail frequently.

When that A/C switch is "on", the compressor runs in any of the factory settings. If it is "off", the compressor would never run.

It is wired between the panel and the compressor, so it either passes or cuts off the compressor signal.

I can run the defrost w/o the compressor turning on.

Does that help?

Thumbs up Sure does

Modifying the switch prevents the A/C from coming on at all on the panel/floor mode ?

How often do you actually use the compressor in defrost mode ?
I have noticed if the windsheild fogs up a lot it normally means it's just time to clean it
I was thinking about cutting out 1/2 of the switch so the compressor would only operate in Normal and MAX A/C modes.
1 of the terminals have 12v on them only when the system is not set to off, I suppose I could add a manual switch for making a connection to the purple compressor wire if i found I needed it for defrost.

Also is there a way to wire the LED to let you know when the compressor is actually cycling ?

- Yes

- it just depends on the time of year.

- you could, but you'd need to pass a wire from under the hood back into the cab. A pressure switch controls when the compressor cycles, so you'd need to tap into the wire going to the compressor.

Ted'98, how about some more info. The link to that 'other' F-150 website just goes to the forums page, not to a particular thread. Where did you get the switch and which selector switch did you modify (shown in your gallery)?

It looks like the "other" site either deleted or archived old poss.

The recirc switch came out of a mid to late year Saturn.

The selector switch I modified is the one that controls the Panel/Floor/AC/MAX AC funtions.

mod DONE

Well I went ahead and bit the bullet, the only A/C now comes on ONLY when A/C is selected NOT on panel/floor or defrost.
It's nice not having to worry about MPG based on where you set the HVAC control !!!
Taking that switch apart was a pain but it was worth it

I clipped the entire left side of metal instead of just the peice that controls the panel/floor compressor operation.
