Replace HU, but keep Sirius??

Hi all, I've got an '06 F-150 and it came with Sirius and the 6-disc HU. I'm wanting to add bluetooth (mainly for streaming audio) so I've been exploring options. Doesn't seem to be much more expensive to just replace the HU than trying to wire in an aftermarket bluetooth or AUX port, so I'm currently leaning that direction.

Question is...... I bought a lifetime sub of Sirius and don't want to part with that. I haven't tore into the dash yet, but from poking around on the web, it appears to be separate unit from the HU? If that is the case, will any "satellite ready" HU be compatible?

I'm not totally determined to replace the factory unit, so if you have suggestions feel free to tell me a better way.

thx!

Yes, the Sirius unit is a separate unit from the HU. I replaced my HU (have the same as you) with a Pioneer unit and had to purchase a new Sat. tuner for it. The OEM tuner could not be used with it. I did use the OEM antenna though. Anyway, called Sirius and had my subscription transferred to the new unit, cost $15.00 for the transfer.

Bummer, that's disappointing.......... I don't think they x-fer the lifetime subscriptions. Was hoping it would just be a matter of finding an adapter, or better yet, just plugging right in.

In your research, did you happen to come across a reason why? Is it a 1:1 pairing with some unique ID in the HU or just b/c it isn't an OEM unit any more? (after your reply, I'm wondering now if I just tried to find a newer Ford HU rather than 3rd party)

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience... guess I'll go back to the drawing board.

If I recall correctly I think the actual connection between the two was different as in the OEM Sat. unit would only work on the OEM HU. Or the OEM Sat would not work with the Pioneer unit. Yea! Sirius won't make things easy for us. I may just drop them entirely soon.

I'm curious what does a lifetime subscription go for these days?

Funny.... I went searching for a thread that I saw here yesterday when I was trying to find an answer to my question. Someone there said they were something outrageous like $699

In searching for THAT just now I found a thread where someone was trying to do the same thing (swear that I searched before asking my own question). Looks like it takes a $120 conversion kit. Going to keep poking around and see if this is really for OEM Sirius because the kit seems to have a tuner of its own.... And that one appears to be for Pioneer HUs only.

Here's the thread where the person said it was $699 (last July). Mine was $399 back in '06. I thought that was crazy expensive, but in hindsight, I kept the truck long enough to make it worthwhile. Now I just need to find a way to marry it up with other HU's and I'll rip it out of the truck next time I trade. Sirius and I have a different definition of "lifetime".

Finally getting the right search terms figured out, I think, and am finding several folks with your experience Sam.... I guess it just isn't meant to be.
